How to Get that Old-Hollywood Hairstyle

Have you ever seen such a beautiful, glamorous, head of hair that made you stop and think- I could NEVER get MY hair to do that!
Well, I’m here to say- Yes, you can, and it’s easier than you think!
If you love the hairstyles of these golden age goddesses- Vivien Leigh, Ava Gardener, or Grace Kelly, then get ready because I have an amazing step-by-step process to let out your inner-red carpet vixen.
  • On towel-dried hair apply a volumizing mousse to the roots, and a blow-dry lotion that will add volume and hold the shape final shape of your hair- apply this roots to ends on top of the mousse. ( my favorite products for this is: Framesi B.Y. Light Mousse, and Unite’s Blow & Set)
  • Next, blow-dry your hair with a flat brush. Feel free to flip your hair upside down to help with volume. (Don’t worry about it being “too big” or fizzy, the curling iron will tame it down.)
  • Once your hair is 100% dry, section it into three sections- bottom, middle, and the very top.
  • Using a 1 1/2inch curling iron, curl the bottom and middle sections BACK, away from your face.
  • Next, curl the top section FORWARD, towards your face. Be mindful of where you part your hair. A deep side part works best for this look. Do NOT brush through curls yet.
  • Spray your hair roots to ends with a light hairspray. You want hold, but you need to be able to brush through it. ( I love, love, love Framesi BY Light Mist Hairspray.)
  • Finally, once your hair is completely cooled and “set”- brush it out with a soft bristle brush. This step is key! The curls should turn into soft, S-shaped waves. I personally like my fringe area, on the thicker side of my part line, to be lifted up off the root. ( Imagine it looking like an arch ) If you have to, don’t be afraid to slightly tease this area, to ensure it really stands up on it’s own.
A few extra tips- you may have to play with it after brushing it, to get it where you want it. It it’s too puffy, or dull looking, spray a LIGHT shine spray on your hands and lightly run your hands over your hair. It will add shine, tame it down a little, and help smooth frizzies.
