How to Re-Create Kate Middleton’s Chic Pregnancy Hair

After receiving the joyous news that they’re expecting, many of my clients become obsessed with whether or not to drastically change their hair. They’re under the assumption that either

A. Moms have short hair, so they should cut off all their length.

Or, B. They’ll be too sick/tired for anything more than a sloppy ponytail.

Neither is true.

Case in point- KATE MIDDLETON.

This mommy-to-be has kept her hair stylish, demure, and feminine during her pregnancy. With the following steps, you won’t need her team of personal stylists to re-create her look at home.

It all starts in the salon. Make sure to ask your stylist for long layers with a tapered front. Also, a long fringe angled away from the face.  (If you’re in the Bay Area, please come visit us at Salon Cartier in Walnut Creek, CA)

  • At home, start with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner in the shower. (If you already have thick or coarse hair, stick to moisturizing)
  • After towel drying, and combing through with a leave-in conditioner, apply a light mousse to the root area. Next, add a blow-dry lotion from mid-shaft to ends.
  • You’ll want to “power-dry” your hair with your fingers or paddle brush until it’s 75% dry. Then clip up your hair leaving everything from below your ears down.
  • Using an 11/2 inch ceramic round brush roll sub-sections of hair forward around the brush, and blow downwards with your blow dryer.
  • Repeat the same process on the middle section of your hair, and finally with the very top section. Raise your brush slightly higher with each section to pull hair up off the root, and create volume. Let everything cool and set before running your fingers through it.
  • A light mist of hairspray and you’re done!- If you’d like it a little more polished or formal, use a large curling iron after drying with a round brush.
