Walnut Creek Hair Salon Tip: Postpartum Hair Loss
Try not to worry about your postpartum hair loss!
Normally 85 to 95 percent of hair is growing at a given time while the other 5 to 15 percent is in a resting phase. After resting, this hair falls out and is replaced by new growth.
During pregnancy there is an increased level of estrogen which increases the length of the growing phase. Since fewer hairs are resting the result is thicker more luxurious hair.
After childbirth estrogen levels decrease and more hair follicles enter the resting phase. This is when we see the most hair loss.
Expect this to taper off and be back to your pre pregnancy thickness 6 to 12 months after giving birth.
Unfortunately we cannot prevent this type of hair loss, however, a new cut with lots of layers or experimenting with thickening products can help give hair a thicker appearance!
