Minimize Hair Damage

How to Minimize Hair Breakage

We know hair breakage can be frustrating. With that in mind, here are 6 tips to help prevent hair damage and minimize breakage:

1. Protein

If you’re experiencing serious breakage, the first thing you will need to do is consider your shampoo. Breaking hair is weak hair. In order to remedy this, you will need to opt for a product that will help to strengthen your locks.

Protein fills in the holes in your cuticle and coats a layer over your hair. To help keep strength regular hair trims will help the breakage from moving up your strands.

2. Moisturize

Chemical treatment, heat styling, and basic features of contemporary life can leave hair dehydrated.

This in turn weakens the strands and predisposes them to breakage. Replenishing your hair’s lost moisture will help to restore its elasticity, rendering it less brittle and easily broken.

A thermal leave-in conditioner is a must to protect your hair and use a quality moisturizing conditioner that’s specifically designed to re-hydrate your dried ends.

3. Vitamins

Fragile, brittle hair can also be a result of stress, major weight loss, or a vitamin deficiency. Try adding fish oil and biotin supplements into your diet.

These fatty acids run through your body which feeds your hair to grow healthier.

4. Reconsider Your Style

Very tight elasticized hair bands can contribute significantly to hair breakage. If you wear your locks in a ponytail that is tight, consider changing this.

You might be unknowingly causing strands to snap. Make sure your elastic does not have metal on the band which can catch and break your hair.

5. Styling tools

If you work on your locks every day using a blow dryer and a straightening iron, try buying an infrared ceramic blow dryer. This new technology shrinks the water follicle in your hair and dries your shiner and faster.

Make sure your hair is completely dry before using your flat iron or curling iron. Hair that is not dry will sizzle and damage your hair.

6. Brush Right Wet

The correct comb and brushing technique can also make a big difference to the condition of our hair. Remember always to start your detangling at the ends of your hair using short strokes and work your way up to your scalp.

This will help to minimize hair breakage that does occur. A light leave-in conditioner with a thermal protector is a must.
