Sun, Sea, & Healthy Hair? How To Protect Your Hair This Summer

Summer Hair Salon CartierSummertime…what’s not to love?

With all the sunshine, swimming, and all around outdoor living, it can be a lot of fun. However, it may not be as much fun for your hair.

Summertime can be damaging and drying to your hair. So, here are some great tips and products to help protect your hair this summer:

  • For everyday protection- always start with a moisturizing leave-in conditioner with UV protection (7 Seconds by Unite is THE BEST).  Spray in damp hair after your shower, comb through, and style as usual or let it air dry.
  • Another easy way to decrease the amount of chlorine or salt water your will absorb is to saturate your hair with tap water before you dive in. Think of your hair like a sponge. A dry sponge will absorb a lot more water than a wet sponge.
  • For ultimate vacation-proof protection, I love Rene Furterer’s Protective Summer Oil with water-proof 90 kpf protection. Just spray in roots to ends before spending the day at the beach or poolside. One application is enough
  • If, after all these precautions, your hair still feels a little dry- use a deep moisturizing conditioning mask (NeuMoisture Masque by Neuma is my fav). Start by using in the shower, bi-weekly. Then decrease to just once a month.
